The Letter from a French Solider (dated at August, 14th 1914) is a historical item. It can be found in the train station after Emile completes his training in Chapter 1.

The letter can be found inside a soldier’s pocket. Look for the flag held up by two guns to the right of the start location and it can be grabbed there.

"Dear parents,
I am still set to be mobilised to the front. We're going to take Alsace and Lorraine back from the Germans. Don't worry, I'll be home before Christmas.
